Espejo decorativo con forma de ojo

Si te gusta navegar por Pinterest o estar atento/a a las últimas tendencias sabrás que cada temporada hay un objeto o animal de moda. Y si bien van y vienen, hay algunos que han decidido quedarse. Un ejemplo de esto son los ojos.

Desde diseños geométricos hasta algunos más bohemios, los ojos hoy decoran muros, textiles e incluso la ropa.

Así que inspirada en ellos, quise hacer este lindo espejo.

Materiales

• Espejo redondo
• Porcelana en frío
• Brochetas de madera
• Cola fría
• Pintura acrílica o témpera negra
• Pincel
• Masking tape
• Tijeras para podar (o unas con las que puedas cortar las brochetas)

Decorative mirror in the shape of an eye

If you like browsing through Pinterest or you’re always looking at the latest trends, you know that every season there is one object or animal that’s in fashion. And even if they do come and go, there are some that are here to stay. One example of these are eyes.

From geometric designs to something a little more Bohemian, these days you can find eyes decorating walls, textiles and even clothes.

So inspired by that, I wanted to make this pretty mirror.

Materials

• A round mirror
• Cold-setting porcelain
• Wooden skewers
• PVA glue
• Black acrylic paint
• Brush
• Masking tape
• Pruning shears (or something to cut the skewer sticks with)

Usa la porcelana para cubrir el contorno de tu espejo. Hazlo aunque tenga plástico o metal, porque así quedará parejo cuando apliques la pintura.

Use the porcelain to cover the outer edge of your mirror. Do this even if the mirror does have plastic or metal frame because this way you will get a better finish when you paint it.

Haz un cilindro con la masa (del diámetro de tu dedo índice) y corta dos piezas para pegarlas en la parte superior e inferior del espejo, y así darle forma al ojo.

Then make a cylinder with the clay (like the diameter of your index finger) and cut two pieces to stick them on the upper and lower parts of the mirror, giving it the shape of an eye.

Con la porcelana aún blanda, entierra las brochetas para perforar los lugares donde luego las pondremos a modo de pestañas.

Deja secar muy bien. En mi caso fueron un par días para que quedara súper firme.

While the porcelain is still soft, use a skewer to make holes where the eyelashes will go.

Let this dry thoroughly. In my case it took several days for it to dry properly.

Corta las brochetas para las pestañas. El largo dependerá de ti. En este caso las de arriba las hice más altas al centro y más pequeñas a los costados, mientras que abajo las mantuve todas de la misma altura.

Insértalas en los agujeros con un poco de cola fría para que queden bien pegadas.

Cut the skewers to make your eyelashes. The length depends on your taste. In this case I left the upper ones longer in the middle and shorter at the sides, while the lower ones I left all the same length.

Stick the eyelashes into the holes with a little bit of glue so they stick well.

Una vez secas, cubre el espejo con masking tape y papel y pinta con el acrílico o témpera negra.

Once that is dry cover the mirror with masking tape and paper and pint it with the black acrylic.

Para colgarlo puedes usar esos ganchos con velcro de Command.

To hang it you can use those hooks with velcro by Command.
