Marbled pencils

Today’s DIY is super simple, fun and very quick to do. The idea is to give a different twist to our desk with some marbled pencils. Marble is a very fashionable texture at the moment.

If you want to know how to do this then take note of the following materials:

  • A pencil: ideally with a brown or black body, The simpler and smoother the better.
  • White nail polish
  • Black nail polish
  • A toothpick
  • A container that is taller than the pencil: in my case I used a flower vase

Fill the container with water ensuring that the water level completely covers the submerged pencil. Add the white nail polish until you get an even layer on the surface of the water.

Now add two or three drops of the black nail polish.

With the tip of the toothpick swirl the paint so it mixes and you achieve marbled effect.

Take the pencil by the tip and submerge it in the water until it is totally covered. Lift it out of the water and shake off the excess water and any drops that remain.

I recommend you keep the pencil in your hand for a little bit and don’t rest it on any surface until it’s dry – that way you’ll avoid smudging the nail polish and leaving any marks.

Once they’re ready you can dab them softly with a towel or absorbent paper and that way make sure that there are no water bubbles remaining on them.
